We support UNHCR in Ukraine
Population movements inside Ukraine are unpredictable at this time, they are also difficult to track. Clearly there has been significant displacement inside the country as hundreds of thousands of civilians continue fleeing seeking for safety. Large movements towards and across international borders are being reported. More than seven million have crossed the international borders. The figure keeps rising.
UNHCR in Ukraine
UNHCR are present in Ukraine with 115 staff. They are working with the authorities, UN, hundreds of local groups within the IDP community and other partners in Ukraine. They are ready to provide humanitarian assistance wherever necessary and possible. To that effect, security and access for humanitarian efforts must be guaranteed. UNHCR have prepositioned stocks of relief items in various locations across Ukraine and are ready to deliver. However, security and humanitarian access are major challenges.
UNHCR has offices in Hungary, Poland and Romania. Slovakia and the Czech Republic under a multicountry office in Budapest - they have a longstanding presence in the region, working with national authorities on refugee related matters. They stand ready to support efforts by governments and other stakeholders to find solutions in case of possible movements.
They have 115 staff in Ukraine and over 100 staff in the region. They have reinforced their operations in Ukraine and in neighboring countries, sending more resources, staff, stockpiles. They have stockpiles prepositioned in various locations in the region. UNHCR stands ready to send more staff and supplies.
